Veterans Cup Final

Forest Glade vs Valley Green
Veterans League Cup Final

Saturday 26th April
14.30 Kick - Off

Venue - Billericay Town FC, Blunts Wall Road, Billericay CM12 9SA
Tickets - £3 per Adult, Children Free admission

After a season of mixed results and squad settlement, Forest Glade Veterans have made it through to the League Cup Final in their very first season in the competition.

The veterans side features coaches from throughout the Forest Glade age structure including three of your own coaches, Stuart Daltrey, Alan Jelley & Michael Broadbent.

It has set up to be a very entertaining game as this weekend saw the two sides battle it out in their first ever meeting, Ending in a 2 - 2 draw and a share of the league points after Forest Glade being in the position of a 2 - 0 lead.

It would be great if you could find the time to bring the under 6's along to support the coaches and give them the extra encouragement to push on and win the cup.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE COULD SEE AND HEAR YOU ALL THERE.

13th April 2014 Away Against Corringham Athletic

This weekend the Tigers team consisting of Max, Alfie, Ethan, Alex, Ryan and Joshua played an away game against Corringham Athletic and came away with an impressive 4 -2 win. We was really hoping to get the team all dressed up in the new "Kwik Fit" away kit, however much to the boys disappointment Corringham play in yellow and therefore we decided to keep our blue home kit on. Joshua and Ethan both volunteered to play half the game in goal this week and they got to try out the new "Kwik Fit" goal keepers kit. Joshua made a couple of saves but let two goals into the back of the net. Ethan kept a clean sheet in goal and made some very bold 1 on 1 saves with no room for error.

One of the Tigers biggest problems in last weeks game was poor defending and often being caught on the counter attack with no-one behind the ball to help protect the keeper. So it was good to see that this week they had listened to the coaches and Joshua and Max took on the central defending role. Max in particular made a very good defencive run back with a shoulder to shoulder sliding tackle resulting in a corner rather than a shot at goal for Corringham. Very good to see and as a result of the improved defence over last weeks game, Max was awarded the MOTM medal for this week.

To be honest though the Tigers made it very difficult for the coaches to pick a MOTM this week. All of them played outstanding and were listening to the instructions given by the coaches. I am sure the parents would agree that this was an enjoyable and entertaining match where the boys showed a big step forward in their ability to play together as a team. There was some really good passing combinations, some great crosses into the box, some solid tackles in defence, no-one being greedy with the ball, lots of calling for the ball and in places there was even lots of very neat footwork, twists and turns. Myself and Lee were very pleased with the performance and really struggled to decide who was MOTM this week.

The Tigers were quick to take control of the game and score another early goal as they did last week.

Alex on one of his runs down the left side of the pitch, not many could match his pace.

Ryan leaves the Corringham defence standing as he gets ready for a shot.

Joshua takes a goal kick.

Ryan and Alfie taking a centre kick.
AT this point I should probably mention that Ethan probably broke a World Record on Sunday for the number of headers made in a single game. He must have one hard head because if not he must have woken up today with a bit of a sore head. Basically every time the Corringham team took a throw in, Ethan was on it like a shot and heading the ball back out of play. I think on one occasion he did this about 4 times completely stunting the play of the opposition.

Here comes another Ethan header!!!

Ethan on a run.

Joshua and Ryan teaming up with Alfie and Max holding their positions.

Does it really take 3 Corringham players to close down Ryan?

Half time talk and oranges with coach Lee and Jason. Ethan now wears the keepers kit for the second half.

Ryan in action during the second half.

Another open goal for Ryan to shoot at and what a great position Alfie is sitting in to support.

Max did some absolutely solid defending at the back

Joshua makes a break down the right but couldn't get the shot in.

Action shot as Max throws the ball up field towards Ryan.

Joshua doing some good defending and keeping the Corringham team from getting a shot at Ethan.

Alfie makes a break down the right with Ryan and Joshua in good position to support up the line.

Alex weaving his way through the defenders to get at goal, not sure what Joshua is doing here!

3 cheers for Corringham and the end of game hand shake. Teaching good Sportsmanship hopefully.

End of match team talk with the coaches and awarding the MOTM medal to Max.

Many thanks again to Nikola for the great pictures.

Terminator Training

TERMINATOR TRAINING SESSION

Julian Dicks former professional footballer and manager.

Playing from 1985 until 2002, he was a defender, notably in the Premier League for
West Ham United and Liverpool. He was voted West Ham's player of the year four times between 1990 and 1997. He also played in the Football League for Birmingham City where he started his footballing career, ending it in 2002 in non-league football with Canvey Island. He became manager of Wivenhoe Town in 2009, before moving to Grays Athletic later that year. He was capped by both the England U21 and England "B" sides. He was known as a "hard man" adopting the nickname of The Terminator. He was a tough tackler with a strong shot in regular demand as a penalty and free kick taker.

As coaches we are always looking at ways of giving the teams that extra bit of encouragement, We have made contact with Julian to see his availability to come over to Forest Glade and assist us with a one off coaching session for our under 6 teams.
This would be a great opportunity for the children to meet someone that has played at the highest level of English football.
They would also be able to ask questions and take pictures with him after the training.

If this is something that you would all like to see happen, We can arrange it before the end of our training season.
We would require a small fee for his services which would be split between all children wishing to attend the session.

PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP IF YOUR WOULD LIKE YOUR CHILD INVOLVED SO THAT WE CAN WORK OUT COSTS  AND GET IT BOOKED.

Player of the Week 12th April 2014

Very good, fun training session this Saturday. The coaches all felt that the children all worked hard and there was some good football in the training games at the end. It seemed the week for Birthday celebrations with 4 of the group celebrating recent Birthdays. So sorry to all the parents for the sugar rush from all the sweets and cakes!!! Anyway very well done to one of the Birthday boys, Charlie who got this weeks Player of the Week trophy.

FG U6 Volunteer Coaches

Over the last month or so we have been trying to get the coaches profiles all uploaded onto the blog (I know we are still waiting for Lee and Stuart!!!). One things that we wanted to make all the parents aware of and appreciate is that the Forest Glade coaches are all volunteers and receive absolutely no commercial compensation for running the Forest Glade Under 6’s. All of the yearly subs get paid directly to the club to pay for the grounds, club house etc and like you we pay full fees for our own children as well. In fact most of the coaches probably do this at a financial loss given that we are paying for things like medals, training equipment and in extreme cases even FA certification out of our own pockets.

All of the coaches put in a significant amount of time and effort in phoning around organising matches, planning and supporting training sessions, knocking on doors for sponsorship, team selections and so on. All of the calls, texts etc come from our own personal contacts/phones. It can be hard work at times as we all have day jobs (some with unsociable hours) and we all have our own family life to juggle in addition to coaching duties. We put in all this effort and time because we are passionate about football and find it very rewarding coaching the children and seeing their progress.

Please keep the above in mind and work with the coaches for the future of the children. If you are dissatisfied in anyway, be it with team selections, quality of training, health and safety or anything else – please come and talk to us. We have the kids bests interests at heart and all want the very best for them. As a final comment I would like to say we are not perfect but we are learning and trying to improve all of the time. Recently we have received a lot of positive feedback regarding our structure and set-up both internally from Forest Glade and externally from other clubs we have played. This indicates that we are heading in the right direction and are starting to lead the way rather than following what others are doing.

More Pictures from Team Sigma Vs ET

Thanks again to Nikola for taking some great pictures of Team Sigma playing East Thurrock at the weekend. I think we might have found our club photographer as Nikola seems to capture the actions shots much better than me (but them I am usually trying to scream at the kids from the side lines and take pictures at the same time!).

Ryan looking for that early goal.

Not many yellow shirts defending this attack.

Ethan and Ryan marking their men well.

Ethan trying his luck at a long shot on goal!

Ethan at full stride powering away from the yellow shirts.

Ryan taking a corner.

Ethan looks for Ryan in the box as he launches a corner.

Alex and Ryan closing down on the yellow shirt to get at the ball.

Great action shot of Ethan taking a strike.

Alex getting a very dodgy tackle from a yellow shirt. Clearly not playing the ball here!

Alfie and Joshua set-up a center kick.

Nice after shot pose from Alex as he strikes the ball.

Away v Kelvedon Hatch

Carpe Diem - "Seize the Day"

This week we cancelled training so that the teams could gain much needed match experience, After initially being scheduled to play Two teams from Perry Street at home, We ended up taking three teams away ?

We had the Perry Street game booked in for a couple of months, However due to them not being able to field Two full teams they regretfully cancelled on Wednesday evening.

Due to conversations being held with other clubs regarding them entering the upcoming Forest Glade 5's Tournament we eventually managed to arrange games for our Three teams, The games were not 100% finalised until 10pm on Thursday evening putting us on the back foot with regards to informing parents and the other coaches "Jason/Lee" where they were expected to travel to on the Saturday.

Leopards v Kelvedon Hatch FC

Again this week we noticed the difference between our club and the away teams structure, We play to the standards expected of our team next season, one game of 40 minutes not four games of 10 minutes, We enforce the retreat rule which will be expected next season.

Regarding a match report i honestly cant think where to begin, The team all played really well again, We had Ellis in goal for two games who played very well, Darcy and Charlie again stepped into the goalie position to help their team out too, That said every player offered their services to play in goal ( Big praise for them )
We still need to work on our positional play and movement off the ball, We need to stop crowding each other and all running for the same ball.

The team scored some very nice goals on the day and completed some very neat passing, They called names and looked for each other when the opportunities were there, They all tracked back and helped out with defencive duties. We can take a lot of positives from the games and it was good to see that we didn't get our played at any point of any of the games, We may have conceded a few goals in a couple of games but i feel this was more down to the retreat rule not being played than down to anything we done.

A few pictures after the game.
